Don’t worry I’m leaving all “50 Shades of Grey” puns and references at the door. To be honest I’ve never even read the book or know much about it. But what I know… what I really know deep down in my heart is that I love all shades of grey! (no seriously that’s not a reference)
I seriously love all shades of grey! “IRL”
(which Gavin taught me means IN REAL LIFE)
It’s so hard to keep up with all of this acronym lingo!
I am so glad that grey is the new “neutral” because I am just tired of yellow, beige, off-white and every color in between those. It seems that the majority of the rooms in my home are sporting some shade of grey… except for Jude’s room.
Choosing paint colors can be hard so I wanted to show you a collection of my grey paint colors in real life.
Gavin’s room was the first one I painted and it is a very dark grey. I love it though. It’s been almost 3 years since I painted his room with Benjamin Moore Granite and we haven’t even had to touch it up. Now that’s pretty huge for a kids room.
This dark grey is perfect for a really well-lit room. It’s a true dark grey with very little undertones at all. The richness is superb and I highly suggest this for not only rooms but doors and cabinetry as well.
Now this little hallway is chalkboard paint in black. I know.. duh! But I wanted to point out the door.
I mixed a little bit of white in with some left over Granite from Gavin’s room.
This door is the most used door in the house which means tons of fingerprints and shoe scuff marks.
Well since I painted it over 2 years ago… I’ve got nothing.. no shoe marks, no fingerprints, no dirt. It just all blends in.
Our laundry room is painted a color named Sparrow by Benjamin Moore. This one is very similar to Granite however it has a definite brown undertone. I would say that Sparrow is probably just as dark as Granite if not a little bit darker.
Sometimes in the light it looks like the undertone may even be a deep purple. It’s still a beautiful color.Even in this super small place and it really works.
In our guest bathroom we choose Grey Cashmere. Don’t be fooled by that name. It’s not a true grey… and I knew that. It is more of a soft grey/green for sure! It works really well with the cabinets that I painted with my granite and white mixture left over from the back door.
Oh look, I had more left over granite/white mixture and I painted a lamp with it. Do you ever have left over paint and you find you start to use it everywhere. It’s a really awesome shade of grey… seriously!
This lamp is in our guest bedroom which I have yet to photograph or blog about. I know seriously…
GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, Lesley!
The color in this room was a happy accident. We found it in the section of paint that people return the name of the paint is Sea Mist. It was like twenty bucks for the gallon and that’s like a major steal in Benjamin Moore land. On the swatch it looks really green. In real life it is way more grey than the Grey Cashmere. Crazy, huh?
Our newest color is the ever “famous” Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. And yes I buy all of my paints at Benjamin Moore. Not only is the quality of paint superior to many other brands but I love the customer service at the one here in Murfreesboro is outstanding.
I would say that Revere Pewter is a medium grey and sometimes even on the light side. It has a beige undertone in the evening and a very silvery look in the bright sunlight. Keep in mind it is not a true sidewalk/concrete kind of grey it has various undertones which speak way more to a greige than a true grey. I really love this color and it looks magnificent in our huge living/dining/kitchen area.

I have tried revere pewter in three different rooms in my house and it always has too much of a greenish tint to it. I WANTED to like it but, no.

Yes I agree it is not a true grey it really depends on all the elements and light in your room. I am so indecisive with paint I was even looking at it today in the overcast and thinking it did look greenish too. But my curtains have a lot of earthy colors in them Don’t be surprised if I come back and repaint with a different grey.

What shade of white do you recommend that has depth and warmth. Thanks
Lesley @Chaotically Creative says
Honestly, the white I use is extremely bright white. But people tend to love Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White.

I am thinking of painting my main windowless bathroom “Sea Mist” in Benjamin Moore paint of course. It is the best.
Would Aqua towels go ok with this color?
The molding, fixtures, cabinetry and baseboards are white. Floor tiling is white as well with grey grouting.
Lesley @Chaotically Creative says
It all depends on the light in your room . Sea mist really reads more of a neutral so your towels should look great

Revere pewter also looks Green on my wall. I’m looking for a BM color that will go well with warm and cool tones. Any suggestions? I have a lot of natural light I also have BM 1102 in my living room and love it!

Coventry Grey is a very nice color. We used it in the vintage office. http://chaoticallycreative.com/2014/12/vintage-office/

Hi – I couldn’t find Sea Mist for Ben Moore. There’s two others with similar names but one is a bright blue green (sea mist green – 2041-50) and the other is a light avocado green (pale sea mist – 2147-50). What was the color code for your Sea Mist?
Thank you!, Lisa

Hi Lisa I’ll check when I get back home and post it here

I’m looking for a nice grey color that works well with chocolate brown sofas and dark brown floors with white trim and molding. LR and DR and K will be same color. I want something different in foyer/hallway. Any suggestions?

I would look for a grey that has brown undertones. I Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter is gray but has a lot of brown so does Sparrow. That being said grays are super tricky and all depend on lighting. We used Silver dollar upstairs and it looks gray but downstairs it looks baby blue however painting all the trim a dark gray made all the walls look light gray. Long story short test out your color in each space because with every space the gray paint will possibly look different. Check with your Benjamin Moore dealer and ask them for options with brown undertones> Hope this helps!
