Our Favorite Place to just be….Our first finished room. It’s amazing how a well decorated space just draws you in, isn’t it? The bedding is by Serena and Lily and the accent pillows and bedskirt by Target.
If I haven’t told you lately I love Ikea and we broke up a few months ago because I moved away. Unfortunately, we can’t really have a long distance relationship due to the limited amount of things that Ikea is willing to ship…. sigh. We will meet again though one day I will travel to see my love again. These cool little containers have handles that you hang over a metal rod. Great for organizing.
We purchased this lamp at, yep you guessed it, Ikea. However, the Eiffel Tower is an actual souvieneer from Paris.
Meet Reno the Rhino from cardboardsafari.com . Gavin received him as a “gift” for Christmas.Yes, it was one of those things I had to have and gifted it to him but he loved it. It’s actually a model that you put together like a 3-D puzzle and best of all it’s made of 100% recyclable materials. We love Reno.
This headboard was one of the best looking projects I have ever completed and almost chaos free. I used coupons and bought inexpensive duck fabric in order to keep the cost down. Learn how to make one yourself here Nailhead Upholstered Headboard DIY
You can see the Hopen dresser from Ikea in it’s former state above and the beautiful upgrade right here. What do you think? I printed out diamond shapes that I created on my computer because I have yet to win or purchase a Silhouette Cameo which would have cut them all out for me. But for now I use the primitive way of printing them out and hand cutting every one of them. I then cut out strips of contact paper, placed diamonds on the paper and then stuck it to the inside of the drawers. Now, no more viewing my child’s unmentionables. The whole inspiration for the color pallet in Gavin’s room was this awesomely cool picture we found at my second love, HomeGoods. The ceiling lamp was an inexpensive fixture from Lowes that I upgraded with some Green Spray Paint. The wall color in his room is Benjamin Moore Granite. This room gets the most light out of the entire house so this dark color works perfectly.
I like to choose multi-purpose furnishings where I can. These two beauties are from Target and are used for storage and seating. When friends come over they pull them up next to his desk.
I wanted Gavin to have a space where he could put anything he wanted. I had to ask a local roofing expert to cut and bend a piece of sheet metal for his bulletin board. FYI local hardware stores only carry small sizes. All for $35 I got this beauty and the edges bent as well. The desk is from the Expedit series at Ikea. The books are organized by color and really give the shelves a more dynamic look.
Sometimes mistakes can turn out to be something even more amazing. We bought these two skateboards with the intention of mounting them as shelves. My husband swears he told me that they were too big… somehow I don’t remember hearing him. Needless to say they were too big!!! To my dismay I couldn’t mount them as shelves. Instead my husband suggested to mount them this way. We took out one screw from the wheel holder thingy on each side (sorry don’t know what that part is called). Next, I mounted two small wooden blocks on the wall with screws that lined up with the screw holes from the skateboard. Then I lined the skateboard up with the blocks and put a screw through the hole into the wood. Sounds complicated but it really wasn’t. Honestly, I love it more than what I was going for. The boards really bring color and light to that side of the room which was otherwise colorless.
