Have you been wondering when I will ever post a room reveal. Did you think I disappeared to the Bermuda Triangle? I feel like I have. I mean it’s not like it has been 6 months since we started the boy’s bathroom upgrade. Well the main reason why it is taking so long is because I have made a big MISTAKE! One that I feel you can learn from. So I will share it.
You see I decided I wanted to paint this amazing stencil all over two of the main walls. Like the one below from Mandi at Vintage Revivals. I love her style and I loved the way her triangles look. She used a completely different technique from me. I made my own stencil, I’ve done it before and knew it was possible. Mandi created a stamp and her own stamping technique.
But one very important tip Mandi gave was “use a level”.
“Pish, Posh. Lesley don’t need no level.”
This is an after picture of my wall now that I have painted over the triangles. I’ve decided to alter my plan and that is why you now see an orange line across the wall. This line is level. The triangles…. not so much.
Anyone that has stenciled knows that you must be level. Any mistake can throw off the whole design.
Why did I keep going?
Because I thought I could straighten it out.
I thought, “Oh, it’s not that bad.”
And it was.
The more I looked at it the more imperfections I saw. The more imperfections I saw the more my head started spinning!!! My tender little perfectionist heart couldn’t live with the uneven stencil.
I decided to go the harder route instead of stamping because I wanted really clean triangles. I know it would have worked if I would have used a level and paid much better attention to the distance between the triangles. But I didn’t!
So back to TRIANGLE one!
What you say?
That’s right, do we give up? NO… we push forward and start over! I only wasted 200 hrs painting and tracing these triangles but that’s ok.
I am still going to do the triangles on the wall and I have faith that they will look like these inspiring pictures….

Here’s the new plan. I am installing paintable beadboard wallpaper on the lower half of the wall. A chair railing in the middle and the triangle stencils on the upper part of the wall.
I am hoping to have this part of the bathroom complete by the end of the day on Monday. And this time I will …… Use a Level!
