I was inspired to make a Growth Chart for my children that would coordinate with my laundry room.I had been admiring the Ruler growth chart seen on Pinterest (the one linked is by DearLillie) but they just weren’t quite right for the style of my retro/chic laundry room. It took days for me to think of a design. In fact, it wasn’t until I brought the scrap piece of plywood into the laundry room that this idea came into my head.
Growth Chart DIY Instructions

I left out one step. Choose your background color and paint with your choice of color, then proceed to step number 5.
A french cleat is a very secure hanging device and allows a heavy object to be hung without showing any hardware. I used this to hang my Nailhead Upholstered Headboard as well.
Materials:
- 12″ X 7 ft piece of plywood ( mine was left over from my upholstered headboard project)
- *****SHORTCUT***** I would suggest purchasing a pre-sanded and primed piece of MDF Particle board that is about the same size as this board. It is sold at Lowes Hardware. I used a piece for shelving and it would work perfect for this project as well. If you do this you will not need primer, wood filler, sander, or cloth. It is well worth the price of the board which is about $13 to $18
- Primer
- Paint brush
- background paint color, paint color for arrow, craft paints for letters
- stencils for letters
- wood filler
- Sander
- cloth
- painters tape
- 6″ french cleat

I love this but the thing that I am trying to figure out is how to mark, in a cute but neat way, their height and to show date and age as well. Any suggestions for that? Then to me this would be perfect!

Nancy what I did and still do is print the name, date and height using my label maker. We also mark their height on the black chalkboard arrow with a chalk paint marker but you could always use a white paint pen to make it permanent. I like the look of the marks being in different colors and then the other stuff printed so it’s legible.
