If it weren’t for my family I might not have decorated for Christmas at all this year. All I wanted this year was A CHAOS FREE CHRISTMAS!
It’s been a pretty calm year until DECEMBER hit. I mean bam we had two weeks of the croup and then a week of the stomach flu.
Up until about two days ago there was still major illness going on in our house. I literally spent 4 straight days cleaning carpets, bedding and bathrooms. When I say I spent days cleaning I mean it. Picture the scene from the EXORCIST with the little girl’s head spinning and vomit going everywhere.
(VOMIT and EXORCIST I bet those are two words you never thought you’d see on a Christmas post… Sorry!!!
That’s the only explanation I can come up with. Jude’s head must have done a full 360 in order to create the type of destruction I discovered a few nights ago.
It was truly a NIGHTMARE before CHRISTMAS ….. and now that my carpets, bathrooms and linens are disinfected I can reveal to you my home for CHRISTMAS.
Go ahead and grab a cookie and a cup of hot cocoa and ENJOY……..
This year I only purchased a few things for our holiday decor. Two small evergreens, 3 pink poinsettias and the greenery for the mantel.
Everything else you see is either decorations from the past or things I have found from around the house. I used a lot of silver gold and blue this year and I really love it.
I have to admit I have never been that great at styling shelves but I think I found the key.
Use medium to large objects, keep those larger objects the same color and then use small objects to bring in the pops of color.
For the greenery on the mantel I simply twisted some old christmas garland around it and in seconds it was beautiful!
I had left over drop cloth material from my tie dye outdoor panels. I simply set the pot on a square piece of fabric then cut a strip to tie it off.
I love these stockings, I found them years ago at Target before Jude was born. I can’t seem to find another one to make my set complete. Keep your eyes out because if you find one I would love to have it!
Did you notice the backs of my shelves are a different color? I painted them a lighter shade of blue/green because the Emerald was just too dark. What do you think of the new color?
I love how this room is coming together. Soon I will be able to reveal it all. But here’s my little secret…. behind that evergreen on the right…
I’ve bashed up the tiles. Yes, you heard it… I bought those to cover up my smashed up tile.
SHHH! It’s our little secret.
Ok so Pink Poinsettias are totally in this year… at least that’s what my friend Carmen Johnston said and she should know because she’s a plant expert.
I have to say… in my opinion she is right! I LOVE THE PINK POINSETTiAS!
But seriously. Like I said I wanted a CHAOS FREE CHRISTMAS… and after all the illness passed I was able to achieve it. Just by adding a few simple touches.. and our regular Christmas traditions… the house looks FESTIVE.
Check out more of my hutch here…
And now we can sit back and enjoy what the season is really all about… FAMILY, FRIENDS AND…..The BIRTH of our SAVIOR ! Have a wonderful Christmas Holiday!

Everything looks great and I am glad to hear that everyone is feeling better. We had our Christmas celebration yesterday because we all can’t get together for Christmas itself. As it was we were two short because of illness. Your house looks very bright and festive. You did a great job.

That is a beautiful room and I LOVE your bookcases. I am glad you painted them. Sorry, but I didn’t like the green, this looks way better. As long as you changed it I can tell you LOL.The ornaments in the boxes, all looks beautiful.
Lesley @Chaotically Creative says
HA HA HA I’m laughing seriously. You totally could have told me that you didn’t like the green. I have changed paint colors so many times in this house it isn’t even funny. I just couldn’t get use to it and sometimes once you get the other things pulled together you have to adjust.

WOW! Your home looks stunning! I love the festive touches. I was just thinking yesterday that I should have purchased some pink poinsettias, but I don’t want our cat to eat them…and he would. 🙂
p.s. The blue paint looks fantastic in the bookcase.
Lesley @Chaotically Creative says
Thanks so much! I know for years I couldn’t buy them because of the cats but I also read somewhere that they weren’t poisonous which I always thought they were.

Thanks Cindy. I am just glad that we were able to put up some Christmas and this year was actually the one year I refused to stress about it.
