The Rustic Adventure Room is done! That’s right, Jude’s Rustic Adventure Room is DON!E!!! Every week for the past 6 weeks I have shown you what we have been doing in his room for the ONE ROOM CHALLENGE, an event where bloggers are given 6 weeks to do a full room makeover, hosted by Linda from Calling It Home. We’ve shown you the original design plan here and the whimsical framed feature wall mural plus the easy wooden window cornices and an amazing faux fireplace with wood that really crackles . Then last week I showed you all about designing spaces for kids to help build security and self-confidence. I added a few little finishing touches after that and now it’s ready for you to see!!!! I’m so EXCITED!
Before we get to the final reveal let’s take a look back at what Jude’s room looked like. Because we had just moved in, it was literally a clean slate. The paint and carpet were new, and I had no plans of changing either. Instead, Jude decided on an awesome Adventure Room theme after flipping through some catalogs and his cabin bed. The cabin bed was definitely a splurge item but I know that you can find a similar one here for a much more affordable price.
Jude also had very strong opinions on the bedding. He specifically said he wanted orange and white striped bedding. Luckily I found a duvet cover on sale at Pottery Barn Kids that worked perfectly. I wish I could have just ordered window coverings but unfortunatley, the window was a challenge! I had to create custom wooden cornices because the area was too tight to fit a curtain rod. Here’s the full tutorial here, it’s actually so easy!!!
We found several “adventure” items at Target like the fox pillow and the raccoon pillow. I also bought the “Seek Adventure” artwork at Target as well! It brings that little pop of orange to the gallery wall!
This room is really quite amazing depending upon where you are standing! From one side you see the awesome Cabin bed and Gallery Wall but from the other side, you see this enchanting wall mural. It’s almost like a gigantic watercolor painting. Pictures DO NOT do it justice!
You guys know me well. I do not buy everything new, I love to find vintage and repurpose as much as I possibly can. In the photo above I’ve re-used the area rug which use to be in our old playroom over the paper bag floors.
The scenic mountain oil painting, the orange suitcase, and the orange cooler are all vintage finds from various thrift stores.
This bed is so cute and cozy! FOR KIDS .. not for adults. I say this because I still lay down with Jude at night to put him to bed and let me just tell you, getting out of this thing is not that easy for a tall 36 year old.
When we in the process of buying this house I was able to pick out some of the light fixtures. All of the bedrooms were going to have ceiling fans. I personally think that a light fixture is like the jewelry of a room and I love to have something unique. To save money I told the builder to put boob lights in all the bedrooms instead of fans. It was cheaper and I knew that I would replace them. I choose this super cute black light fixture from Pottery Barn Kids! And it’s great price too!
I couldn’t end this room reveal without mentioning a really special piece in this room. I went back and forth about painting this dresser and trust me I love a good painted piece! But it’s pretty special to us! It’s Gavin’s changing table that we bought in Germany when he was born. It’s real wood and I just love the natural look of it. After much debate, I left it alone and I love it! The cute bunny lamp that my husband had to have this summer, an old tool chest and Jude’s rock collection work perfectly. And he uses that magnifying glass frequently to explore his collection!
That’s a wrap. Now it’s time for new adventures in our brand new home and this bulletin board will be the perfect place to collect all those photos and memories! Aww thanks! That room is on the small size and capturing that mural was challenging! I’m glad you could tell how awesome it is! It reminds me of the surrounding woods we now live near… except minus the kangaroos.

Wow, this is so fun and well put together, I love the color scheme. Sometimes these theme rooms can go a little on the tacky side, but this is just elegant. I love all the accessories like the oil painting, the tool chest, the fox pillow etc. The orange bedding is great. What a lucky kid!
