Keeping track of children’s work and their goals and milestones can be tricky in a busy classroom. I know I had trouble insuring that every child had the same opportunities. In order to stay on top of this I ran to Office Depot and purchase 3 things. Are you a teacher? Preschool, homeschool, or elementary school? If so this tip will work in any classroom.
Items Needed:
- Sharpie Pen
- Sharpie Highlighters in at least 5 colors
- Mr. Sketch Markers (ok I admit those are just for the kids)
You have your materials for your task organization chart . So let’s get the projects started.
Each day we have preschool tasks we typically have at least two things that we want to make sure each child achieves. It may be one on one time practicing cutting skills with a teacher or it may be an opportunity to create a specific type of art based on the artist of the month. Some times these projects last for a few days and it’s hard to keep track of which child has completed an opportunity.
Drawing a self portrait was our first project of the year. Some children will spend much longer or a task than others and that is perfectly fine. For this project I had each child look in a mirror and describe what they saw. Then I had them take their finger and place it on his or her chin. Together we traced the outside of our face with our fingers to see what type of shape our faces are. Then I asked them to draw that shape. Lastly, they added the details.
As each child completed that task I would check it off of my task list next to their name.
Like I mentioned before sometimes we have several projects going on at the same time. Like today. These children are working on free art with our new Mr.Sketch Markers. When we have a new material that everyone is excited about we want to make sure everyone gets a chance so we keep track of that as well.
Here’s the list that I use to keep track of all activities in the classroom that we want each child to have the opportunity to complete. Using my Sharpie Pen (I love this one because it doesn’t smudge) I fill out the top row with tasks.
On the side row you add the children’s names. Lastly, use you smudge free Sharpie Markers to highlight each column so that you have an easier time working down the list.
If you think this idea would work for you then head over to your local Office Depot or Office Max for some awesome Back to School savings and don’t forget about your Office Depot Rewards as well.
