I connected with Mantis and offered to do a review of the Mantis Electric Chainsaw. They accepted my offer and sent me a Chain Saw! Thank you so much Mantis!
I just love getting packages in the mail, especially when they are so useful and adventurous.
So, are you wondering why I would want an electric chain saw?
We have a gas powered one. A small name brand one. Can I be honest?
I completely wear myself out cranking it and cannot keep it cranked and frankly it is a little bit scary.
We have a lot of branches and stumps and things that need to be cut. I have no desire to cut down a large tree. I shiver just to think about it.
When I spied this chain saw on the Mantis Website, I knew it was just what I needed!
So what does one wear when chain sawing?
Well, I can tell you that you don’t wear jewelry that could get caught on the bar. This includes necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Also, no loose clothing and if your hair is long, an up-do might be in order. Watch out for those little draw strings on jackets as well.
Safety goggles are a good idea since wood chips will be flying. A pair of gloves are recommended when you are working with the chain as it is very sharp. Of course, I wore neither. I am such a rebel…
I’ll be honest, I was a little intimidated. After at it IS a chainsaw. I waited for a time when my husband could be with me for moral support and to take pictures.
Prepping the Mantis Electric Chainsaw was really quite simple. Everything was included except the Bar & Chain oil and the funnel.
Adding fresh new oil was the first and most important step. That was super easy.
The saw even has a little window so you can see how much oil is in there. This is a self lubricating chain so you do not have to oil the chain itself. After it is started, check to make sure the chain is being lubricated. When you start cutting, you will actually see it throw a little stream of oil.
Next you put the chain on the bar making sure the cutting teeth are facing toward the front of the bar. There will be excess at the back so that it will fit over the little gear.
The next step is to install the bar and chain on the chain saw and making sure the teeth of the chain are all in the slot of bar.
After the bar is in place, just put the cover back on and tighten with the wheel. So easy!
Next I am going to tighten the slack in the chain by the moving the dial on the left. You should only be able to lift the chain about 1/8 of an inch. Believe it or not, it is ready to be plugged in and started up.
While holding the saw with one hand the thumb on the other hand is pressing a button while the other figures are mashing a lever.
I actually braced myself expecting a very loud rough jarring experience…
After a few seconds delay the saw comes on. It is super smooth and not even that loud giving me the confidence to continue.
An “I GOT THIS” moment!
Yep, my first victim, a Crepe Myrtle tree planted right next to the foundation of my house.
It was here when we moved in and it just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Not a good choice for right next to the house.
I was immediately surprise by the ease, power and speed and the Mantis Electric Chain Saw. It was right up there if not better than our gas powered one and the ligaments of my arms were still intact since I did not have to crank it.
My next victim is a dead limb hanging out in our natural area. The chain saw went through it like butter.
I wanted to do a dance. I felt so empowered!
My husband in front of me taking pictures and here I am looking up to see where this is going to fall. Which by the way, is quite important when cutting limbs.
There is also more too them than you think…
Here I am cutting a limb that is next to another limb against a stone retaining wall. I do this by using the top on the bar. You also need to be aware of where the bar is going. You never want to hit stone, cement or the ground to protect your bar and chair.
My husband is very experienced with chain saws and I wanted to get his opinion of the performance.
He was very impressed and said it was very powerful for it’s size and weight. He gave his stamp of approval as well.
Now I am off to a little bit bigger challenge, a small tree.
Oops, TIMBER, right into the neighbors yard. WOW, it really did not look that tall.
Notice the eaten out hole in the tree? It was full of carpenter ants! Just like the ones eating the flower boxes on our upstairs porch! Oh the joys of old trees!
Next I am going to cut the tree off near the base. Piece of cake! I am so pleased with the Mantis Electric Chainsaw. I would go as far as to say I LOVE IT! Just like I LOVE my Mantis XP Tiller.
I do a great deal of yard work and I want to be able to trim and cut without waiting for my husband to come home and do it or crank it. All I have to do is get my outdoor waterproof extension cord and plug it in.
Order yours today and have it delivered to your door.
It would make a awesome gift for someone like me!
