I really like my patio umbrella that was purchased a couple of seasons ago at Walmart. It perfectly matches my house and orange day lilies. It was featured when brand new in the post My Back Door and More. I was disappointed when I took it out of storage a few weeks ago and discovered some green algae like stains on it.
We have a lot of large trees in our yard and I evidently put it up without properly cleaning last fall/winter. After Spiffing Up The Patio, I really did not want to use a dirty, dingy umbrella.
As you can see, it is looking pretty bad with all this green icky stuff all over it. You know me, I am not about to toss it out and buy a new one just yet. I am at least going to try and figure out how to clean a patio umbrella.
After trying several combinations of cleaning solutions, I discovered that Resolve Carpet cleaner along with a stiff bristled brush worked very well! Sign of relief! Another key to Calm!
Simply spray on the Resolve, scrub, rinse and repeat if needed.
I tried several types of brushes and found that the stiff dish cleaning brush worked best.
After scrubbing and rinsing check for remaining stains and repeat. Continue cleaning around the entire umbrella. It is looking good!
The cheery and happy patio umbrella is almost as good as new! Hopefully we will get a few more years of use out of it!
What are your tips for keeping your patio umbrella clean and new looking?
Feeling calm now that my favorite summer patio umbrella has been saved!

Did you use Resolve carpet cleaner or the one for upholstery?
