You can create a Gardener’s Girt Dollar Tree Craft for around $10.00 with a large can and Dollar Tree! All items in the can (minus the seedling) were purchased at Dollar Tree. What a great gift idea for the gardener in your life. For instructions on how to create a gift can including making a flower from a gardening glove read on…
- Large can. This is a food storage can, but any large can opened with a smooth edge opener will do.
- 3 pairs of gardening gloves with dotted palms. One for the can and 2 for the flower.
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Poly Cord or Jute
- 1.5 inch thin circle
Prior to creating your flower, decorate your can. These cans were wrapped in poly cord from the Dollar Tree. The ends of the cords will be cover with the flower. Note: The top edge can be covered with seam binding or thick fabric to soften the edge. Also, hot glue hardens very quickly when applied to metal, so work fast.
Cut the fingers off the gloves. These will be your flower petals. 6 fingers will be needed, so a pair of gloves will make 2 flowers.
Using a gathering stitch, bring the edges of each petal together. Form the flower by placing similar sizes opposite each other.
Then hot glue the petals over the ends of the cords.
Cut off the cuff of the glove keeping the dotted palm intact for your flower center. Keep the cuff to use later. I just love my magic scissors!
Make the center of your flower using a 1.5 inch thin circle made from foam board, wood or plastic. Even an old button will work. Cut a larger circle from the dotted palm material. Now glue the fabric in place. As you glue, pinch the fabric and kind of “work” it into place.
Un-twist a piece of poly cord. This particular brand, Tool Bench, found at Dollar Tree, unravels into 3 separate pieces. You will need 6 pieces total. Make a loop with the cord.
Note: (Any other material you have on hand can be used such as jute, twine or rope. )Hot glue the loops to the flower and then glue the fabric circle to create the center of the flower. Yea, your beautiful flower is done!
Here is what your finished Project will look like. Next you fill it up with all of the awesome gifts you can find in the gardening section at the Dollar Tree. We also included the seedling in a cup and koozie below.
I had some seedlings on hand started in Styrofoam cups for the garden. The cuff of the glove made a perfect koozie and the seedling added life to the can.
When your grateful gardener has removed all of their gifts from the can, it can now be used as a planter. What do you think? Do you ever use everyday objects to make crafts? Feel free to share your ideas.
