My In-Laws gave us tons of their furniture in attempts to downsize their current home. I have to say some of the pieces were super drab and outdated. It took me a while and a lot of inspiration but I think that this chair transformation really works!
This Bamboo chair in it’s original state was damaged. A piece of the bamboo is missing on the back and the wicker seating is completely gone. My MIL attempted to recover a piece of wood for the chair seat and she did pretty well. Except for one thing, the staples she used were too long, so every time you sat in the chair you literally had a pain in the butt. A Re-Do had to happen but first I was in need of inspiration. Look below at the pictures which inspired me and follow the links to discover some great sites.
This was a pretty simple DIY makeover. I simply spray painted the chair gold with spray paint. Then I removed the old fabric and pokey staples and recovered the seat with this gorgeous HGTV fabric that was gifted to me by Becki at Infarrantly Creative and trimmed it out with bias tape. You will see more of this fabric later and here the rest of the story.
I am loving this chair! The first “new” piece for our Playroom and office makeover. Keep your eye out for these chairs at thrift stores. They are solid, comfortable, and really snazzy once made over.
Update: Our playroom has undergone some major changes like a paper bag flooring , trash can lights and another vintage chair makeover.

What did you do for the base of the seat? Did you put the old board back on? This looks gorgeous! There was a time in the past that I was painting everything gold. I am glad to see people using it again.

Gloria, Yes, My in-laws had cut a board and put foam on it. I just removed the staples and old fabric and used the same board. I had to put the black trim around it to hide some of the gaps. Unfortunately the wicker seating is missing. I use to despise gold but I am loving it now!!!!

Thanks Nicole, I can’t wait to finish! This is probably the most budget friendly room I’ve done with the most dramatic outcome

Dang girl you wasted no time getting started using the fabric. That is awesome. The chair looks great. I love it paired with the gold. I can’t wait to see more.

Umm, so yea, my mouth literally dropped open when I saw this! LOVE the gold! What kind of gold spray paint is that? And it looks gorgeous with the fabric!
Lesley says
THanks so much Jenna. I left the type of paint on your sassy memo board post blog but for the readers here (sorry I forgot to add the paint type)… It is the 18kt Gold Plated spray paint by Krylon. It is so much better than the regular gold. It’s in the spray paint section at Michael’s it comes in a smaller bottle. It is a real true gold where the others are a little more bronzy!

Wow. Now that’s what you call a total makeover!

Thanks so much Kathryn! It was so easy too!
