It is Shady Plant potting time on the Front Porch! Even though I have a ton of projects going on, I like to add a few summer plants to the front porch. I stopped by my local greenhouse and picked up some shade friendly plants during their clearance sale. Another way that I save money on plants is to seek out locally grown and find out when they have sales. Thankfully, William’s Greenhouse is my favorite place to shop locally, and they have a Face Book Page that updates customers on their growing progress and upcoming sales.
In order to fill my wire baskets, I wanted a tall plant, a flowering plant and a fern. I managed to grab a beautiful combination.
This tall and lovely plant with lime green foliage and hot pink tipped leaves stole my heart right away. This is a beautiful plant that loves the heat and the shade and does well in containers. BINGO!
This medium size New Guinea Impatient really gives a hot pink pop of color in the shade!
This year I used some burlap instead of coco liners in the baskets with some random rocks in the bottom. Sometimes I use pieces of the old clay brick I find around the house because it will hold some moisture.
Potting soil was added and then the plants placed and positioned. Also you can arrange and straighten the burlap easier with some soil in there to hold it in place.
Then I gently spread them apart to add more soil. I had a couple of the smaller Inpatients so I added those in as well. William’s always has these smaller ferns which are just wonderful in baskets or just by themselves.
A little friendly fern placed by the door is a welcoming touch.
A little spritz of water to wash the dirt away and give the plants a drink.
Our local greenhouse had these four packs of Impatiences for just .75 so I decided to fill my planter between the porch rockers with them. I just love the mixed colors!
In a matter of less than one hour and less than $20.00, my large wrap around porch has a little summer color and class. Just a touch here and there really makes a difference. Maybe one day I can really deck it out, but right now, there are other projects (parts of which have spilled onto the porch) that need to be finished.
Our welcome baskets are in place and it is time to move on to another project, that calms the chaos and beatifies our space,

Never thought about using burlap lol I used weed prevent for my base hmmm wonder if I can change that and thanks for the tip on Williams fb page
