Just a real quick shout out today for Bar Keepers Friend® Cleanser & Polish. This product has been around since long before I was born and I don’t know why I am just now discovering it’s greatness. Let me tell you, this product is my Friend and I am busy with white dish scratch removal today! By the way, this is not a sponsored post. Last week I popped in to my favorite Goodwill store and spied an entire box of my dishes for just $4.99. Now years ago my aunt passed down her set of white Pfatzgraff to me. Of course with all the chaos, kids and mishaps, there is breakage. So, whenever I come across some extra pieces I grab them up. Oh, have you ever noticed how wonderfully awesome your thrifting “find” looks in the store and when you get it home you’re like….
“Those look a little worse that I thought. Why do I continue dragging this junk home?” I mean, I knew they were a little scratchy but when I got them out in the light, I was like seriously, these bowls and plates are as bad as it gets. I need a white dish scratch removal solution.
Then I remembered the last time we were cleaning bathrooms, my husband discovered what a superior job Bar Keepers Friend® Cleanser & Polish did on the porcelain sinks. After he cleaned and sanitized the sinks, he would use this as a polisher on them. He actually used his fingers and could feel it taking of the grit and grime buildup. They really looked sparkling clean, so I bet this cleaner will a great solution to white dish scratch removal.
I sprinkled a little in the bowl. Seriously what did these people eat with? There must have been some outlandish spoon to bowl contact going on here!
With a little bit of water, I started rubbing it around it a circle. You can see that the Bar Keepers Friend white powder starting to turn gray and the bowl is starting to look better. Now that is some serious white dish scratch removal.
Now, I am NOT advocating that you use your bare un-gloved finger to polish a box of dishes by any means. I just wanted to try it because of what my husband said. You can use a paper towel, a sponge or any type of cloth and just enough water to make a paste.

I, too, LOVE Bar Keepers Friend! I keep finding that it is my go-to product for most cleaning jobs; especially for my stainless steel pots and pans. It keeps them looking brand-new, though I’ve had them for 12 years. I use those pans daily and no one would ever guess. It’s one of the cheaper cleansers – people should try it, they’d be amazed!

Just be careful…. I love Bar Keeper’s for my stainless sink and my pots (not the non-stick!), but if you use it on good china, it will remove the glaze, allowing the dishes to become stained with a single use. Believe it or not, denture cleaner is a much better way to remove those scratches without damaging your china. Just thought you might learn from my past mistakes!
To add a note, Bar Keeper’s will take permanent Sharpie pen off stainless steel appliances… For those times when someone accidentally leaves one where a toddler can reach it…
Do you know if it will buff scratches out of stainless steel. I have some surface scratches from some sort of rag or cleaner I used.
