I choose to create Native American inspired plaques. The arrows, deer, and feather are all really in “style” right now and they also work well with holiday themes like Thanksgiving and Christmas. These images also looked easy enough for me to “draw”.

Okay, I admit it I am not a great artist. I am a wonderfully “re-drawer”. What the heck does that mean? It is a technique I developed a long time ago when working in preschool. I am certain that anyone can do it.

What you need to do is look for simple images that have very distinct and simple lines. I found the deer and feather from Hannah on We Lived Happily Ever After and on Papercrave. (remember that when you re-draw someone else’s images they are for personal use only)

Some objects can be easily cut out and traced such as the deer and arrows. The feather would be difficult to cut however, you could cut out the shape and trace that as a simple outline. I created the arrows myself simply using inspiration from various websites.

Next, place your cutouts on your slate and trace the shape with a black permanent marker. Remember: It doesn’t have to be perfect because these images are meant to look like sketches.

I loved the look of the black permanent marker however it didn’t make the images stand out enough. I choose to trace all of my images with a piece of white chalk. The combination of the two created a dimensional look. However, if you do not want these drawings to be permanent simply skip using permanent markers.

If you are looking to add a little Holiday flair, grab some peel and stick holiday wrapping accents. Once the holidays are over you can easily remove them. I have great plans for these plaques. The boys bathroom was is still under-construction and there is a perfect place for the set of 3 right between their two new medicine cabinets.
