Have you ever seen such a sad and boring wall? Or much less have you ever seen such a randomly placed GIGANTIC Teddy Bear? Well you know me, that’s life in the nut house! Random things are always part of the picture and we love it! But this wall does not reflect our style or are crazy, creative, and chaotic personalities!
So what’s a girl to do? I KNOW!!! Let’s bring in some color and fun with the Elise Display Cabinet by Sauder Furniture to bring this wall to life!
Styling an accent piece is a lot easier than you think but what about styling a brightly colored accent piece? Well that’s pretty easy as well if you follow my 5 simple steps.
5 Steps to Styling a Bold Accent Piece
- Find an amazing backdrop for your piece, you can use picket fence slats, barn wood, wallpaper, old doors or old windows.
- Find a smaller piece of art and layer it on top of your backdrop. Make sure the art has at least a touch of the color of your piece. See how the cow painting has some red accents?
- Find accent decor that are the same style but in 3 different colors. Pull from your art. Here I have used Vintage Farmhouse pieces. Notice the Red, White and Turquoise accents. I pulled all of these colors from the painting.
- Bring life to your Bold accent piece by adding plants, fruits and fresh flowers. You can mix faux with real just make sure that the faux is so realistic that no one can tell.
- Fill your Piece with attractive decor NOT clutter. If you want to store books that’s fine but stack them in a decorative fashion. Storing small items? That’s great too but hide those things in baskets or decorative bins.
Bold furniture pieces are nothing to be afraid of. You can have fun with them! Get creative and let your personality shine through. Remember it’s your space and what you love is all that matters!

Great advice. As much confidence as I have in cooking and gardening decorating kind of intimidates me. This may lead me in the right direction. Thank you.

Oh Marisa, I am intimidated by cooking so I feel your pain. Just remember the key is to layer objects to create depth! Have fun!
