If you follow us on Facebook you may seen us post pictures of vintage sinks. I LOVE them. So, this spring when I was spiffing up the patio and other outdoor areas, I ran across this beauty and knew instantly it would join my Vintage Washing Machine Fountain in my landscape as TA DA, a Vintage Sink Planter. So, I tossed it in the car (yeah right!) and brought it home. My husband and son where like, REALLY? What now?
Of course, I did what any red blooded American Hill Billy would do and put it on blocks! YES, I really did put it on blocks! But first…
I had this empty little space that needed something besides plants in the ground. So I dug a little hole. Don’t worry, there is a reason. My first thoughts were to make this into a water feature. This would require some sort of tub under the sink to hold water. The blocks were added into the hole and leveled. The water tub would sit between the blocks directly under the sink. But, at the last moment I changed my mind because I found another piece for a water feature! Post coming soon.
The sink was placed on top of the blocks so that it is not sitting directly on the ground and can be easily converted to a water feature later on. I filled the openings of the blocks with potting soil and added soil around the base of the sink.
Then the sink was scrubbed with Bra Keepers Friend which by the way is awesome on vintage sinks and bathtubs. Then I filled the basin with potting soil. Rocks from around the yard were piled up around around the base and hopefully the Creeping Jenny will continue to grow in and around the rocks. Three small plantings of Calibrachoa Superbells Cherry Stars were added.
Here is a picture taken a week or so later. The plants in the vintage sink planter have started to filled out! Then a couple of weeks later…
The Calibrachoa Superbells Cherry Stars burst into a full bloom of flowers that kinda resemble a sink full of bubbles! LOVE LOVE!
What about you? Have you ever used anything non-traditional in your landscape?
Until next time, Happy Days!
