“Continuing our theme of Spring decorating, cleaning and organizing, we wanted to share our solution to the Kitchen Desk Storage Area.
You know, those desk areas that are often built into kitchens and become junk piles…
Do you have a desk in your kitchen not being used as a desk?
Ours is used as a “landing pad”. Everything lands on this desk.
Of course, I cleaned it off to take this picture. Kinda like cleaning house before
When things started landing under the desk, it really started bugging
me. My cute country kitchen looked like a country junk yard.
I had some fabric left over from sewing the window treatments.
A simple panel was sewn and gathered on a spring rod.
Problem solved and I love the look!
Just as a side note- notice the curtain toppers? They are old wooden shelves picked up for just $5.00 each.
Just the right size, color and feel for the kitchen. The window treatments are attached with Velcro.
I just love it when things work out, don’t you?
You may have noticed this little red cabinet on the desk. It was made using thin plywood and has a tin “roof” with an old fashioned hook to keep the doors closed. The perfect place to display my granny’s flower vases, herbs and jams. Now to tackle the pantry, all I need is to make some of these antique labels for all my can goods! Aren’t they adorable.
This is a picture of one side of the kitchen. Imagine it without the desk curtain.
Again, chaos calmed and I am happy!

Wow. Great job! It all looks so nice. I only dream of what it would be like to have kitchen counters without clutter. I love the whole look you did.

Thanks for the nice compliment Jean. I can’t believe how this simple solution helped.

Great idea! Love the fabric and the roosters! I do roosters in my kitchen as well!

Hi Jessica, I was a little concerned that it would look tacky, but very pleased with the way it turned out. Thank you for the compliment.

Found this on pinterest and this is such a great idea! I hate my kitchen desk space, like you said, it’s where everyone throws their junk when they get home. I think this will inspire me to do something similar. Our space is a bit longer, but I’ll get it figured out!

Hi Chelsea, thanks for the comment. We have had two houses that have this kitchen desk space, which NEVER gets used as a desk! You wouldn’t believe what all is behind that curtain! The counter still collects a lot of clutter, but still doesn’t look bad since you can’t see the clutter underneath.
