Spiffing Up The Patio with Spectracide Part 3

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Spectracide. The opinions and text are all mine.

It’s time to see the final results of Spiffing Up The Patio with Spectracide Part 3! In Part 1, I explained that the old flagstone patio had seen better days. It is all cracked up and weeds and grass had grown in the cracks. Funny Story: See the old electric blower on the porch pointed at the patio? I left it plugged in one night and something must have hit it and turned it on early in the morning. It blew non stop for hours! My husband walked right past it on his way to work. He told me later that he thought I was doing some type of DIY project with the blower so he left it on! If only I could repair the patio with my “magic” blower! Pretty sure that is not going to happen, but Spectracide products are almost like magic. Spray and watch certain lawn and garden problems disappear.

It was all I could do to resist ripping up the entire thing, but fortunately common sense, lack of time and lack of budget kicked in. After experimenting a little, I realized that I could get to Spiffing Up The Patio With Spectracide Part 3 with a little sand and elbow grease.

What a difference! I was able to quickly eliminate the grass and weeds all the way to the roots with Spectracide Weed and Grass Killer. Then I dug up the stones that were messed up, added sand to level and re-positioned them. Then I swept sand all over the patio.

Remember the area under the glider? Take a look now…

Not new, not perfect, but a vast improvement! We should be able to use and enjoy this patio for a few more years while we work on other areas of the house and make final decisions as to what we are doing with the back yard area.

Now to add some fun and whimsy, always my motivation to get finished. Remember this barren area from Spiffing Up The Patio With Spectracide Part 1? This is the area that I cannot grow anything because Zippy uses it as a little box!

Well, I ran across this little beauty at the Garden Center Antique Mall in Rockwood TN, and immediately knew that it would make a lovely addition to the patio area.

I scrubbed it down with some Bar Keeper’s Friend, filled it with potting soil and added some beautiful Calibrachoa from William’s Greenhouse.

Now there is something so cute to look at while lounging on the chaise! I can’t wait until the flowers grow, fill the sink and spill out like bubbles!

In Spiffing Up the Patio with Spectracide Part 2 you saw this little galvanized mop bucket. I spied it at the Garden Center Antique Mall as well. The owners have a courtyard out back where they sell neat items like the sink and about 100 items I would like have. When I saw it I knew I had found my next hillbilly water feature!

We turned this little piece of the past into a water feature to hear and view from the patio area!

Next an old terracotta saucer and old frog planter with a chipped ear was added. The asparagus fern hides the chip and they join the patio party.

While working on the patio, I also used several other Spectracide products such as the Ant Shield which really saved me a lot of itching, if you know what I mean.

I also use Spectracide Weed and Grass Killer to disintegration the weeds and grass on our gravel parking pad. Just a few days later, the weeds and grass were brown and dead and are disappearing. That was easy!

We enter our home from the back ally way and walk past this patio everyday. With Spectracide and a little creativity, we have calmed the chaos and unkempt look of it all. Now I don’t look at it and say to myself, “I have really got to do something about that patio!”.
