Happy OlioHop Monday to Everyone! When I was invited back to join in on another Oliohop I was so thrilled! Last month we talked about Organizing which I love. However, when I found out the theme for this month I was even more overjoyed. Olioboard challenged 13 bloggers to come up with, Momspots ” a place for mom’s to help nurture their creative souls.”
This theme could not have come at a better time because I have had a really tough summer. Don’t worry nothing has happened, I’ve just found myself and my patience extremely challenged as a mother. I absolutely love being a stay at home mom, but in some ways I have found it so much harder than being a working mother. Being in the workforce relieved a lot of stress (and also created tons).
To be honest, I think I was less stressed because I was constantly being challenged mentally and creatively. Don’t get me wrong being at home is challenging but in a whole different way (screaming kids, whiney two year old, you get it). When I’m at home I have noticed that if I do not allow myself regular creative outlets then I get extremely stressed and lose my patience a lot faster. Expressing my creativity through music, painting, art and writing is my stress relief and is extremely necessary for my health and my attitude.
Although I don’t have space in my home for an area like this it’s always nice to dream. I do however think I can incorporate many of these same ideas in different areas of my home.
I approached this room like I would plan a childcare room (breaking the room into interest areas or sections). I have many interests and I wanted my “Momspot” to reflect those. You can see in the floor plan above that my Mom friends and I would have these areas:
- a comfortable space to hang out and relax
- television viewing area
- an area for crafting (with lots of shelves for storage)
- a space for working on large projects or playing games
- computers to create Olioboards
- a Kitchenette for snacks and cooking
- an area for learning to play music or singing Karaoke
- lastly an outdoor space
I imagine that this space would need to be colorful, because as you all know I love color. After all, this is where my friends and I will come to hang out and create together. And when I am alone I will need plenty of inspiration to keep the creative juices flowing and relieve the daily stresses of motherhood. (which I love, it’s just hard sometimes, does anyone else relate?)Aren’t these colors so fun and fresh. They inspire me to want to paint, craft and maybe even learn how to cook. As wonderful as this room makes me feel I am an outdoors person. I love nature. I adore a room with windows and access to the fresh air. With that being said, there should be no surprise that this Mom spot has an amazing outdoor space as well. Follow me out to the veranda for a nice glass of strawberry lemonade. The view is breath-taking out there.
I like to use these boards as a reminder to take time to nurture myself and my creativity. Sometimes Mom’s are so busy taking care of others they forget to take care of themselves. I hope that you will join me in my journey in trying to find more patience through taking time for stress relief. In the end I believe I will be a better Mommy for it.
