Splatter Painting Eggs

Good morning everyone. I want to teach you a quick and easy way to paint paper eggs. The eggs pictured below were purchased from Michaels for $2.99 a pack. I used jute twine for the string and craft paint also purchased at Michaels craft store. You will also need a hot glue gun and a small paint brush for this project.

The first step is to get all your materials together. Choose one paint color and then place white or off white next to that color on a plate or in a bowl.

Cut a short piece of twine and bend it in half then use hot glue to adhere it to the top of the egg.

Using the small paint brush generously coat the egg with a bright color of paint. Do not let this coat dry before moving to the next step.

Dip paint brush into your white paint and drag it through the colored paint creating a streaking effect. This gives the egg a more dimensional look. After you have completed this process around the entire egg you are ready for the next step. This step is the easiest of all.

Now for the easiest step. If you have completed your Spring Tree you can hang your egg there to dry. If not, find  a place for your egg to dry where it is not touching anything.

Next, place a paper towel on your work surface. Dip your paint brush in white paint. Flick your paint brush on the paper towel to remove some of the excess paint. If you skip this step you will get a huge splat on your egg.

Now, you can start flicking paint on your egg. Remember,  if you reload your paintbrush always flick the paper towel first to remove the first bit of excess paint.

And there you go! You have a beautiful splattered egg. For more Spring ideas check out the finished Garden Spring Themed Tree and my Spring Mantel. If you are in the mood for Spring Cleaning you may want to see the ever popular Window Cleaning like A Pro Article.

  1. Very fun! I’ve seen those eggs at Michaels and wondered what I could do with them…now I know! Great project!

    • Thanks Jo-Anna! I liked them natural too but they just blended in to the tree. I have a bowl of them just the way they are as well. Have fun experimenting.

  2. I had forgot about splatter painting. Thank you for reminding me! Love your turquoise bowls for paint.
